A flood detector for home
A flood detector protects your home from water damage. Even small quantities of water can result in major damage to your home and furnishings. In basements/cellars in particular, flood detectors are used to provide protection from water ingress which might occur owing to very heavy rain or during floods. Because this flood detector works at temperatures from 0°C, the cooler temperatures in the basement do not affect it. The device detects and reports water leaks early. To do this, the detector cyclically checks the water level measurement every 8 seconds between a pair of electrodes. If the sensor comes into contact with water, the electrical resistance changes. This change is automatically evaluated and activates warning signals such as a shrill alarm tone and a blinking light diode. In addition, the detector informs the Carephone which forwards the alarm to the 24-hour control centre.
Easy installation of the flood detector
The flood detector’s sensor should be installed as close to the floor as possible. The best place is an area which is likely to flood first, such as an area close to a washing machine. Water damage frequently occurs near electrical devices which work with water, such as a dishwasher or a washing machine. You should ideally ensure that all waste water is in the bathroom or the kitchen. Even the bath can overflow, resulting in extensive damage in a short period of time.
The flood detector should be tested monthly
You should check the functioning of the flood detector monthly. To do this, press the test button and wait until a warning tone sounds. If the tone sounds, there are no problems and the flood detector is working perfectly. Otherwise, you should check and replace the battery if neceaasry.
